Nepal has once again made the Covid-19 negative report mandatory for all international arrivals. Anyone arriving in Nepal must present a COVID-19 RT PCR negative report taken within 72 hours of their flight, or a vaccination certificate indicating that they have received both doses of an approved vaccine. This mandate is in line with the country’s efforts to control the spread of the virus in light of the growing Covid-19 cases worldwide and in neighboring countries in China. Children below 5 Years of age don’t apply this regulation.

China has uplifted the zero covid policy after three years of Covid-19 strict restrictions ending the quarantine requirement for international arrivals. As a result, the search volume of international flights skyrocketed after the country announced to downgrade of the management of COVID-19 from January 8, 2023, and top destinations for the Chinese include Macao, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, the US, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the UK. These are the countries where Nepal has a high mobility rate. On the other hand, Many counties such as the United States, Britain, France, Spain, Sweden, Greece, Australia, Canada, India, Qatar, South Korea, Japan, and many others have already mandated the Covid Test on travelers from China. In addition, many Chinese visit Nepal as well.

National flag carrier, Nepal Airlines has also issued a notice requiring all passengers arriving from abroad to mandatorily present a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report with Bar Code or COVID-19 vaccination certificate. Nepal discontinued the covid requirements on March 10, 2022, opening the door to vaccinated international travelers in an effort to revive its tourism industry.
