SINGLE AND MULTIPLE RE-ENTRY PERMITS IN THAILAND

Most foreigners who travel to Thailand or wish to live there either temporarily or permanently must obtain a T0hailand visa. Thai visas are provided for single or multiple entries, typically for a duration of thirty days to a year. Even though the number of days allowed to you has not yet been completed, if a visa is only allowed for one entry, you are not permitted to return. In such a case, a Re-Entry Visa permit comes into becoming handy.

With the help of the Re-Entry Permit for Thailand, tourists who were given single-entry visas can leave the country and return without the visa becoming invalid but the re-entry permit is valid for the duration of the visa, and do not rest your visa every time you enter Thailand. You must reapply for a visa at a Thai Embassy or Consulate to be allowed if you do not obtain a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand.

Who Needs a Re-Entry Permit for Thailand?

Both tourist visas and non-immigrant visas are eligible for a re-entry permit. This is especially helpful if you want to live in Thailand for an extended period of time (as a worker or student) and wish to have the option of leaving and entering the country again without losing your visa and need to apply for again.

Who Is Not Eligible for a Thailand Re-Entry Permit?

You are not eligible for a Re-Entry Permit for Thailand if you hold one of the following:

  1. Visa on Arrival which is valid for a maximum of 15 days and non-extendable.
  2. Already Have Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa or Multiple Non-Immigrant Visa, where you can enter multiple times as long as you have an expiration date.
  3. Thailand Tourist Visa and you entered Thailand under the Visa-Exemption Scheme

Types of Re-Entry Permits for Thailand

There are two types of Thai Re-Entry Permits you can apply for:

  1. Single Re-Entry Permit, which is valid for one-time use. You can leave and re-enter only once.
  2. Multiple Re-Entry Permit, which allows you to leave and re-enter Thailand multiple times as long as your visa is valid.

How to Apply for a Thailand Re-Entry Permit?

You can apply for a Re-Entry Permit for Thailand either at an Immigration Office before you leave Thailand or at the International Airport on the day of your trip.
